NJHS

National Junior Honor Society (NJHS)

Membership in the National Junior Honor Society is both an honor and a commitment. Established to recognize outstanding middle school students, NJHS is founded on five pillars: Scholarship, Service, Leadership, Character, and Citizenship. Selection into NJHS is a privilege reserved for students who have demonstrated excellence in these areas and who commit to maintaining them throughout their membership.

At Sunset Ridge, NJHS members are held to the highest standards to reflect the prestigious nature of the organization. These expectations ensure that students continue to uphold the values that earned them selection, while also developing their leadership skills and serving their community with pride and purpose.

For a full list of rules, guidelines, and procedures, please refer to our chapter By-Laws or contact our NJHS Sponsor Mr. Fowler.

A Tradition of Excellence

Being a member of NJHS is more than just a title—it’s a commitment to personal growth and community involvement. Our chapter offers students meaningful opportunities to serve, lead, and build lifelong skills. This is an exciting time for the Honor Societies, as we engage in new initiatives that go beyond our local community, giving students a chance to impact the world around them.

Students will feel proud to identify themselves as members of the NJHS, knowing they are part of an esteemed tradition recognized by administrators, faculty, students, parents, and communities nationwide.

Active participation is vital:

  • Members are expected to attend all regularly scheduled meetings.
  • Absences must be excused with a signed, written notice to the chapter advisor.
  • Two unexcused absences will result in the member no longer being considered active.

4. Service Commitment – Service & Citizenship

  • Members must contribute to all chapter-selected service projects.
  • Students are required to complete a specific number of service hours each quarter, documented with supervisor verification.
  • Each member will serve on at least one committee per school year.
